LOYALTON — November 2, 2026. Sierra County’s winter safety guidance identifies multiple public-facing locations in Loyalton where residents can warm up during ordinary operating hours.

Two specific locations

The county lists Loyalton Senior Center at 302 First Street, generally 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Monday through Friday, and High Sierra Family Resource Center at 315 Main Street, with listed 10 a.m.–4 p.m. hours. An emergency weather activation can involve different arrangements.

Library access is much shorter

Loyalton Library is located at 511 Main Street and is only staffed Wednesday and Thursday from 1–4 p.m. Residents should check an organization’s current schedule before relying on it during a severe cold snap.

Maps can be unsafe in winter

The county warns that GPS shortcuts sometimes lead drivers onto unmaintained seasonal roads. Check Caltrans and Sierra County public works status, and call 911 for immediate danger rather than treating a community warming site as an emergency rescue station.
